Eastern Kentucky University junior Tom Koringo has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Co-Male Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Koringo beat out Louisville All-American Edwin Kibichiy on his home track to win the 1,500 meters with an OVC-best time of 3:46.9 Saturday at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational.
Koringo’s time currently ranks No. 64 in the NCAA East Region.
The native of Iten, Kenya was a 2015 regional qualifier in the 1,500 meters, when he clocked a personal-best time of 3:45.7.
He was last named OVC Track Athlete of the Week on February 4, 2015.
Koringo shares this week’s honor with Tennessee State half-mile specialist Quamel Prince.
The EKU track and field team returns to action on Saturday at the Kentucky Relays in Lexington.
