The Kentucky Wildcats got four wins – five if you include alumni, six if you add a volunteer assistant who still competes – and the sun even came out for most of the day on Saturday at the Kentucky Relays at the UK Outdoor Track & Field Complex.
Kentucky also honored and celebrated its 18 seniors at the final home meet of the season. The 2017 senior class has combined to win an NCAA individual title, two SEC individual titles, 20 All-America honors, seven NCAA medals to go along with plenty of SEC honor roll and USTFCCCA All-Academic accolades.
The Wildcats’ men’s 4×100-meter relay were the first UK winners of the day as Daniel Roberts, Victor Oye, Fred Dorsey and Nick Anderson recorded a chilly-morning time of 41.07.
Freshman Matthew Thomas won the men’s 3k steeplechase in 9:19.50, while fellow rookie Brennan Fields was third in 9:20.25.
Freshman Charles Lenford Jr. won the won the men’s shot put with a mark of 55’10.25”/17.02m. He placed fourth in the discus, which Noah Castle placed third in (176’5”/53.78m).
Ian Jones won the 800m with a time of 1:50.49.
UK Class of 2015 alumni Raymond Dykstra won the Kentucky Relays javelin, marking his annual May return to Lexington with a win for the fourth year in a row.
Current UK volunteer assistant coach and multiple-times NCAA Champion Alex Ziegler won the men’s hammer throw.
Brandi Walker had a strong senior day placing second in the women’s hammer throw. William Walker earned a runner-up finish in the 400m hurdles.
Nicole Fautsch was runner-up in the women’s shot put and third in the women’s discus.
