University of Louisville senior Sean Donohue and freshman Parker Wynn have been selected to compete in the 2017 NCAA Doubles Championship which will be held May 25-29 in Athens, Ga., following the completion of the NCAA Team Championship.
“I am ecstatic that the NCAA Committee chose Sean Donohue and Parker Wynn for the NCAA Doubles Championships,” said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. “To be one of the 32 teams out of over 1,200 doubles teams in Division I is a great achievement. This team was such a good fit from day one. They could have been ranked even higher nationally because they were about to beat some top doubles teams, but their match was suspended due to the doubles point already being decided. They started the season at 19-1 and despite taking a few tough losses, they still had a body of work that impressed the committee. I am very proud of them.”
Donohue (Louisville, Ky.) and Wynn (North Richland, Texas) received an at-large bid after posting a 24-7 overall doubles record and an 18-7 in dual matches as Louisville’s No. 1 team. The pair has appeared in the national doubles rankings for the last seven ranking periods, reaching as high as No. 22 and currently stands at No. 31.
They become the seventh doubles team in program history to earn an NCAA Championship bid and the first since 2011 when Austen Childs and Viktor Maksimcuk reached the quarterfinals and garnered All-America honors.
