The Murray State softball team’s 2017 season will continue as the team has been offered and accepted a bid to the inaugural National Invitational Softball Championship, the NIT of softball.
“We are excited for and humbled by the opportunity to be invited to the first NISC,” said head coach Kara Amundson. “The fact that this is Murray State softball’s first postseason invite beyond the OVC tournament is a big deal for our program, as a whole, and this team, specifically. We have worked hard to get an opportunity like this and we are excited to hopefully go and take full advantage of it.”
The tournament will consist of six regional campus sites with four to six teams playing at each site in a double elimination format with games played May 16-18. The double-elimination championship round will take place May 21-24 and will feature the six regional champions at a campus site.
The Racers will find out their regional destination Sunday when the entire field is announced. The selection announcement is expected to be made 2-3 hours after the NCAA Selection Show, which is scheduled for 9 p.m.
