Murray State women’s track & field coach Jenny Swieton announced news that two of her top student-athletes have qualified for the NCAA D-I Outdoor East Regional at the University of Kentucky Track & Field Complex in Lexington, Ky.
When the competition gets going (May 25-27), MSU’s speedy pair Jabreuna Brimlett and Tamdra Lawrence will try to place in the top-12 competitors and advance NCAA Championships held June 7-10 in Eugene, Oregon.
“I am super excited for Tamdra, JB and coach Adam Kiesler,” Swieton said. “Both girls are only sophomores and JB is ranked 12th in the 100 hurdles and Tamdra was accepted in both the 100 and 200. It is really great news for them and our program.”
Brimlett, a sophomore from Poplar Bluff, Mo., is coming off a great performance at the Ohio Valley Conference Championship last weekend in Oxford, Alabama where she set the MSU record. Brimlett’s time of 13.22 was her personal record and placed her second at the OVC meet. It bested the Racers’ 2014 record by Sharda Bettis of 13.53.
Brimlett enters the regional with the 12th fastest time this spring in the field of 48 runners.
Lawrence, a sophomore from Macon, Georgia, has won the last two 100 meter titles in the OVC. Her win this spring came with a time of 11.51, her best of the season. Lawrence is the third Racer to win the OVC 100 meters more than once.
She ran a 23.26 in the 200 meters at the OVC meet to place second.
There have been nine NCAA qualifiers from the Murray State program in the Coach Swieton era including Brimlett and Lawrence this spring.
