Murray State’s Rebekah Priddy Named CoSida Academic All-District

Murray State track & field student-athlete Rebekah Priddy was honored by being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District® Men’s/Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Teams as announced from the home office in Greenwood, Indiana.

Priddy, a junior from Austin, Texas, is now a two-time winner of the CoSida All-District Award after winning it a year ago as a sophomore.

She has proven to be a durable and talented runner for Murray State head coach Jenny Swieton. In her three seasons with the Racers, Priddy has routinely competed in several events from the short 800 meter run to the longer events like the 3,000 meters, 5,000 meters and her specialty, 3,000 meter steeplechase.

“I am super-proud of Rebekah,” Swieton said. “She’s a perfect example of how it should be done. She’s equally into her academics and her sport and she works very hard at each. Rebekah is a big part of our program and we’re all very proud of her.”

Priddy is coming off a sixth-place finish at the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championships when she ran an 11:10 time in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. She was just shy of her time of 11:02 which is the third-best among the MSU all-time top-10 list from 2016. Earlier this spring, she had the fifth place all-time mile run at MSU with a time of 5:21.

Priddy is majoring in engineering physics.

The 2016-17 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® Men’s and Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Teams have been released to recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

The Academic All-District® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the sixth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
