Kentucky men’s tennis junior Will Bushamuka advanced to the second round of the NCAA singles tournament on Wednesday with a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (7) win over Tuki Jacobs of South Alabama.
The Princeton, N.J. native will face Gustav Hansson of Ole Miss tomorrow at a time to be determined. Bushamuka faced Hansson one month ago, falling 6-4, 7-5.
Bushamuka improved to 15-7 this spring season, earning a team-best nine wins over ranked opponents this season. The junior native is currently on a three-match winning streak after beating No. 95 Zackery Kennedy of Georgia State and No. 5 Petros Chrysochos of Wake Forest in the NCAA Tournament.
Freshman Ryo Matsumura also competed in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, where he fell in a tight 2-6, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4) contest to Korey Lovett of Central Florida.
Kentucky will be represented in the NCAA Doubles Tournament, as Enzo Wallart and Beck Pennington will face No. 4 seed Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim tomorrow at a time to be determined in a rematch of the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
