Chris Smith, a 2010 graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College, made his Major League Baseball debut on Tuesday night with a relief appearance with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Smith got the nod in the top ninth inning with the Jays trailing the Baltimore Orioles 3-1. The Louisville, Ky.
native forced two pop ups and one fly out along with a two-out single. Smith threw 13 pitches, nine for strikes, in the scoreless frame.
At Kentucky Wesleyan, Smith spilt time on the mound as a closer and in the outfield. He appeared in 15 games as a senior where he set the Panther season record for saves with eight. His career records include most games played (187) and starts (187) and ranks in the Top 10 in six pitching and hitting categories.
An Academic All-Great Lakes Valley Conference honoree, Smith graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in fitness and sports management with a criminal justice minor.
