Murray State Rifle Releases 2017-18 Schedule

Eight home matches including visits from top two teams at last year’s NCAA championship highlight the 2017-18 Murray State rifle schedule released by head coach Alan Lollar Tuesday.

“We are really excited about our schedule for next year,” said Lollar. “We have a good mix of home and away that should give us the chance to mature and improve. We look forward to the challenge.”

The two-time defending OVC champions and third-place finishers at last year’s NCAA Championship will kick-off their 2017-18 campaign with a home match against Georgia Southern on September 23. The month of October will present three opportunities for fans to catch the Racers at Pat Spurgin Rifle Range. Murray State will host UT Martin on October 1, Army West Point on October 8 and a tri-match with OVC foe Jacksonville State and last year’s national runner-up TCU on October 22.

On November 12, Murray State will host the five-time defending national champion West Virginia in its last home match of 2017. On January 19, 2018, the Racers will host the annual Withrow Open where the best college and club teams from around the nation compete in what has become one of shooting’s premier events.

MSU’s last home match of the season will be on February 18, when they host the annual NCAA Qualifier. Away events for the Racers will include the Ole Miss Open on October 6, Ohio State’s Buckeye Open on November 14, Jacksonville State’s Gamecock Open on November 19 and a shoulder-to-shoulder with Morehead State on January 28 in Lexington, Kentucky.

On February 3-4, MSU will vie for its 13th OVC title when it hosts the 2018 OVC Rifle Championships at Spurgin Rifle Range. The following week, the Racers will close out their regular season with a tri-match at Ole Miss with the host Rebels and Memphis.

The 2018 NCAA Rifle Championships will take place March 9-10 at the McAlister Field House on the campus of The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina.
