The University of Louisville rowing team had 10 student-athletes honored on Wednesday by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association as 2017 Scholar Athletes.
The 10 CRCA Scholar Athletes for the Cardinals were the most for any Atlantic Coast Conference program equaling the total for Syracuse. Wednesday’s honor marked the fourth straight season 10 or more Louisville rowers have earned CRCA Scholar Athlete recognition.
Louisville’s CRCA Scholar Athletes for 2017 included junior Rebecca Busk (business economics), senior Erin Enk (exercise science), sophomore Abbi Fitts (business accounting), junior Kiara Loucks (sport administration), junior Callie McGowan (exercise science), junior Elizabeth Patrick (marketing), junior Rachael Schmetzer (exercise science), junior Sophie Schulz (exercise science), junior Kim Streetz (bioengineering) and Allison Zimmermann (exercise science). Busk, McGowan, Schmetzer, Schulz, Streetz and Zimmermann were honored as CRCA Scholar Athletes for the second time in their collegiate careers.
To be eligible to be honored as a CRCA Scholar-Athlete, the student-athlete must have met all eligibility rules as defined by her institution, be in her second, third or fourth year of eligibility, have rowed in her institution’s NCAA or IRA eligible boat(s) for a minimum of 75% of the current spring races or racing in a regional conference and have a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher for her career (through the fall semester/quarter for the current competition year).
