Kentucky swimming and diving will kick off its 2017-18 season Friday, hosting the Sun Shall Shine Intrasquad inside Lancaster Aquatic Center at 3 p.m. The scrimmage will follow the traditional Blue-White format, giving fans their first look into the upcoming season and a chance to preview the Wildcats’ newcomers in a competitive setting.
“It’s exciting to get our season rolling and for many of our newcomers who will be representing UK for the first time,” said head coach Lars Jorgensen. “We can’t wait to get the 2017-18 season started.”
The Wildcats are coming off a historic 2016-17 campaign, which saw nine athletes earn All-America distinction across 10 events. In total, Kentucky athletes brought in 20 All-America honors. Seven of last year’s nine All-Americans return in 2017-18.
The Kentucky women’s team matched its best-ever finish at the Southeastern Conference Championships in February, finishing third, and followed that with its best NCAA finish in a decade coming in 14th.
Admission for Friday’s intrasquad and all UK home meets will be free to the public.
For Friday’s event, fans can park in Parking Structure No. 7, located within walking distance of Lancaster Aquatic Center on the corner of Complex Drive and Sports Center Drive.
The Wildcat women will officially open their season on Wednesday, Oct. 4 as they play host to Vanderbilt. Both the men’s and women’s teams will be in action Oct. 14, taking on Eastern Michigan inside the Lancaster Aquatic Center.
