The Kentucky women’s soccer team will have its eyes set on its third win of the season on Friday afternoon, as they host the day game of a doubleheader in conjunction with the men’s soccer team at the Bell Soccer Complex.
The women’s soccer team will host Western Illinois at 5 p.m. ET on Friday afternoon, with the game also shown live on the SEC Network+, ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app. The voice of the Wildcats, Dave Baker will be on the call with former UK men’s soccer player JD Stephenson on the call from The Bell.
Friday is the kick-off of Hero’s Weekend in Lexington, where all military personnel and first responders will receive free admission into both matches of the doubleheader on Friday. It is also Family Night where a family of four can get four drink and four hot dogs at the concession stands for just $20. In addition – all 24 UK women’s soccer players will be available for autographs after the match.
Kentucky has never faced Western Illinois in its now 25-year history. The Fighting Leathernecks are 0-4-0 on the season, having conceded nine times this season and still searching for their first goal of the season. Dr. Eric Johnson is the head coach of both the men’s and the women’s teams at WIU and operates under the title of Director of Soccer at Western Illinois. He is the all-time winningest coach in the history of the Summit League.
The Wildcats currently sit 2-4-0 overall through the first three weekends of the season, with wins coming against Eastern Kentucky (3-1) and Wyoming (2-1, 2ot). UK has played one of the best schedules in the country to this point, having faced the defending Big 10 Champion Wisconsin Badgers, defending Big East champion Marquette Golden Eagles, and defending ACC Champions, Florida State – all on the road – all inside the first six matches of the season.
