The Kentucky women’s tennis team will kick off its fall campaign this weekend, sending three to the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., and two to Northwestern’s Wildcat Invitational.
At the All-American championships, Kentucky’s No. 13 duo of Akvilė Paražinskaitė and Mami Adachi will compete in the doubles main draw. No. 53 Paražinskaitė will also play in qualifying singles, while Adachi and No. 119 Emily Fanning will play pre-qualifying singles. Prequalifying rounds begin Sept. 30, with the tournament wrapping up Oct. 8. Complete draws for the tournament are expected to be announced Friday afternoon.
Last season, Adachi and former Wildcat Aldila Sutjiadi teamed up to win the consolation bracket of the All-American doubles main draw, earning them a spot at the ITA National Collegiate Indoors.
Freshmen Isabel Prieto Iglesias and Lesedi Jacobs will head to Evanston, Ill., to compete in the Wildcat Invitational. The event will run Sept. 29-Oct.1, with the pair competing in both singles and doubles.
The rookie tandem will kick off competition against Michigan State’s Sara Kuuttila/Habiba Shaker. In singles, Iglesias will face Utah’s Leah Heimuli and Jacobs will take on Marquette’s Natalija Popovic on day one.
