UK Men’s Tennis Finishes ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships

The Kentucky men’s tennis team wrapped up the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships on Sunday. Seven players earned at least one singles win, while Will Bushamuka and Ryo Matsumura each advanced to the semifinals.
Will Bushamuka, the top seed in the tournament, earned five wins to advance to the semifinals of the Ohio Valley Regionals before falling to No. 3 seed Daniel Valent in a hard fought 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 loss in the second to last round. Bushamuka beat one seeded opponent, No. 21 Nicolas Rouanet, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). Bushamuka also beat Carsten Fisher of Dayton, Jan Porteset of MTSU, Alejandro Manzanares of Lipscomb and Preston Touliatos of Tennessee.
Ryo Matsumura, the No. 5 seed in the regional, also earned five wins to advance to the semifinals. He was knocked out by two-seeded Timo Stodder in the semifinals, 6-4, 6-4. Matsumura took down No. 4 seed Edu Mena of Tennessee Tech, 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals and also beat two other seeded opponents – Robert Herrera of ETSU and Jan Pallares of Memphis.
Enzo Wallart advanced to the round of 16 after a win over No. 25 seed Billy Rowe of Vanderbilt, 6-4, 6-0. Wallart also earned wins over Aleh Drobysh of Austin Peay and Juan Lugo of ETSU. Wallart was eliminated by Antonio Cembellin of Indiana, 6-3, 0-6, 6-3.
Trey Yates and Austin Hussey each had two wins in the singles tournament. Yates won in straight sets over Simon Bustamante of UTC, 6-4, 6-0. He took down Max Rauch in a difficult 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (5-7), 6-2 victory before falling to No. 31 seed Brandon Lancaster. Hussey had two wins over Andrew Redding of Indiana and Aviv Ben Shabat of Butler. He fell to eventual finalist, Timo Stodder of Tennessee, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Jake Stefanik earned one win to advance to the round of 64 after beating Daniel Cardenas of Lipscomb, 7-6 (10-8), 6-3.
In doubles play the duo of Cesar Bourgois and Wallart earned two wins over Patzanovsy/Voges of Memphis, 8-2, and Fernandez/Rauch, 8-4 to advance to the quarterfinals. Duos Hussey/Matsumura

Kentucky will continue the fall season on November 3 when UK splits time at the Wake Forest Invitaitonal and Palm Desert Nationals.
