In less than a week, WKU Volleyball will commence play in the 2017 Conference USA Volleyball Championship, seeking a fourth-straight automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament as the second-seeded squad. For the fourth-straight season, Travis Hudson’s unit finished as regular-season champions in the league, sharing this year’s title with No. 1-seeded North Texas. The Red and White are the first team to four-peat as regular season champions in conference history.
WKU will open play on Friday with a noon CT contest with No. 7-seeded Charlotte. With a victory, the Lady Toppers would advance to face the winner of No. 3 Rice and No. 6 Southern Miss. On the other side of the bracket, top-seeded North Texas will take on No. 8 Marshall and No. 4 UTSA draws No. 5 Florida Atlantic.
Four quarterfinal matches will take place on Friday with first serves scheduled for noon, 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. On Saturday, semifinals are slated for 1:30 and 4 p.m., WKU would play in the first match with a victory on Friday. Sunday’s championship match will begin at noon from E.A. Diddle Arena.
Championship matches on Friday and Saturday will be streamed live on CUSA.tv while Sunday’s championship tilt can be viewed on ESPN3.
The Lady Toppers own a 27-3 record on the season entering postseason play, including a 13-1 reading in Conference USA matches. WKU has not lost a match at home this season, sitting at 12-0, and has won its last 52 matches at home against conference foes, dating back to the 2011 campaign.
