EKU Hoops Set To Play Prairie View A&M on Monday in MGM Resorts Main Event

The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team will face Prairie View A&M on Monday in the Middleweight Bracket of the MGM Resorts Main Event. Tipoff from T-Mobile Arena is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET.

WHAT TO KNOW

– EKU (2-1) turned a one-point halftime deficit into a 31-point win on Thursday night, defeating Kentucky State, 97-66, in its home opener at McBrayer Arena.

– The Colonels had five double-figure scorers on Thursday night for the first time since December 10, 2016 at Ball State.

– Three Colonels recorded career highs in points against KSU: DeAndre Dishman (18), A.J. Youngman (14) and Peyton Broughton (13).

– EKU currently ranks first in the OVC and 19th in the country in free throw percentage (80.9%).

– Junior Nick Mayo (19.3 points-per-game) and freshman Dedric Boyd (19.0 points-per-game) are ranked No. 2 and 3 in the OVC in scoring.

– EKU has trailed at halftime in all three of its games so far this season (and won two of them).

– EKU has trotted out a different starting lineup in all three of its games this season.

– Eastern scored 56 bench points against Kentucky State, the most in the Dan McHale era.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

– Prairie View A&M (0-3) has played a tough early-season schedule, losing to Oregon, UNLV and Utah.

– Zachary Hamilton leads the Panthers at 16.0 points-per-game.

– This is the first all-time meeting between EKU and Prairie View A&M.

UP NEXT

Depending on outcomes, EKU will play either Eastern Washington or Georgia State on Wednesday in the Middleweight Bracket championship or consolation game.
