“You have to be able to execute when you’re playing against talented teams, and we didn’t do that tonight,” said head coach Terrance Slater. “For some reason, we’re not connecting the dots, and we’ll go back to work to make it happen. We have a lot of new transfers, and we knew there was going to be a learning curve, right now, we’re in the middle of our learning curve.”
The Thorobrettes (0-4) dropped a contest to the UNA back on Nov. 10, 107-69, Monday night’s game showed their ability to tighten up on defense but was matched in the same manner by the visiting squad. The Lions (4-0) have won three of their first game four games by 25 points or better, including a 74-48 victory against fellow SIAC member Lane College on Nov. 14.
KSU used all fourteen eligible players against UNA, with 12 of the 14 scoring. Freshman forward Erica Jones led the team in both points with eight and rebounds with eight boards. Junior forward Brooke Wallace turned in a productive night as well with five points and eight rebounds.
Compared to the last meeting between the two squads KSU fixed one significant issue with rebounding battle. Previously the Lions outrebounded the Thorobrettes by 17, in the second encounter, KSU won the battle of the boards by nine, 48-39.
KSU will repeat the process of taking on another familiar opponent in a rematch with the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Wednesday night at 5:30 ET/ 4:30 CT.
