University of Louisville men’s tennis coach Rex Ecarma has announced that local standout Alex Wesbrooks has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to join the Cardinals in the fall of 2018.
Wesbrooks, who hails from Louisville, Ky., attends St. Xavier, where he has helped the Tigers to three straight Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) state titles. The 2017 all-state selection finished runner-up in the 2016 KHSAA singles championship and reached the semifinals in 2017.
His impressive juniors resume includes a top-100 ranking throughout most of his career. He has reached as high as No. 47 according to Tennisrecruiting.net. Prior to moving to Louisville in 2015, he won the several tournaments including a sectional.
In addition to his accomplishments on the high school and junior levels Wesbrook and his father, Michael, teamed to win the 2016 USTA National Father & Son Clay Court Championships.
Alex Wesbrooks on Louisville
“I chose the University of Louisville because I felt that, under the excellent coaching of Coaches Ecarma and Gustafsson, I would have the best opportunity to capitalize on my potential. The guys on the team made me feel welcome and I felt at home from the moment I stepped on campus.”
Rex Ecarma on Alex Wesbrooks
“After evaluating Alex on court, I realized how comfortable I am with coaching his game style. When I played for UofL, I had the exact game style as Alex. He is an all-court player that loves finishing at the net. Alex always enjoys doubles as much as singles which is rare in today’s collegiate game. He comes from a family of three high-level tennis players. His parents were star players for LSU and sister plays for Arizona. They know well the rigors and commitment in our sport. The Wesbrooks are a classy family and Alex will represent the Cardinal program with great sportsmanship and integrity. I can’t wait to coach him.”
