Volleyball Takes Down First Place Austin Peay
After a slow start to the evening, the Murray State volleyball team rattled off three consecutive set wins Wednesday night at Austin Peay to defeat the Governors in four sets. Scores went 19-25, 25-19, 25-21 and 25-21.
The Racers (19-8, 11-4 OVC) hit .236 for the match while holding APSU (26-5, 13-2 OVC) to a .204 clip, more than 30 points below its season average for hitting percentage. The win also snaps the Govs’ nine-match winning streak.
Rachel Giustino had a great all-around match in the win as she notched a match-high 18 kills and had a career-best 29 digs. Rachel Holthaus had 15 kills and hit .452 while Dacia Brown added 14 kills and two total blocks. Katirah Johnson chipped in with eight kills, hit a match-high .471 and also led the team with three total blocks.
Ashley McBee came on in the second set and was stellar in leading the Racer offense as she tallied 39 assists on the night while adding nine digs. Libero Becca Fernandez had 25 digs on the night while Alex Kaufmann added 16 and Courtney Radle notched 10.
MSU had three aces in the victory and five serving errors while the Governors had just one ace and committed six service errors. APSU did out-block the Racers 7-5.
The Racers close the regular season Saturday with another road contest as they travel to face Eastern Kentucky at 4 p.m.
