Campbellsville comes into the contest with a record of 6-1 and is 3-1 in the Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division after suffering its first loss of the season to No. 9 Georgetown College in double-overtime, 31-24.
Campbellsville outgained Georgetown, 449-336, while Hunter Brown threw for 400 yards and caught his first collegiate pass for eight yards. However, miscues down that stretch were too much for Campbellsville to overcome in the loss.
On the season, Campbellsville leads the NAIA with 376.7 passing yards per game and Brown is second in the NAIA with 359.0 passing yards a contest this season. Along with throwing for 2,513 yards, Brown has 22 touchdown passes and is completing 62 percent of his passes.
In the ground game, Wade Holtsclaw leads the way with 427 yards and 10 touchdowns. Holtsclaw’s 8.6 points per game are 15th-best in the nation, while Keanu Young leads the pass catchers with 47 catches for 547 yards and six touchdowns.
Campbellsville’s defense has 29 sacks this season to rank fourth in the nation, led by Elmer Barron and Jaceree Caldwell. After tying the program record with four sacks in a game last week, Barron leads the Tigers this season with 5-1/2 sacks and is second with 7-1/2 tackles for loss. Caldwell leads the defensive front with 9-1/2 tackles for loss and has compiled four sacks.
Cumberland comes into the week off of its bye week and holds a record of 6-3 overall and is 2-2 in the Bluegrass Division. The Phoenix have racked up the fifth-most rushing yards in the nation this season with 2,415 yards. Cumberland averages 268.3 yards on the ground and nearly 180 yards through the air.
Dezmon Huntley leads the offense with 625 rushing yards and 1,104 passing yards, while being a responsible for 16 Phoenix touchdowns this year. Cumberland has a pair of dual-threat quarterbacks in Huntley and Joseph Rushin. Rushin has 830 yards of total offense – which is second most on the squad behind only Huntley – and he leads the way with 10 rushing scores.
On defense, DeAnthony Patrick has paced the team with 68 total tackles from the safety position. Patrick also has 4-1/2 tackles for loss, two sacks, two fumble recoveries and an interception. Donovan Norfleet – who is the backup H-Back – leads the Phoenix with nine tackles for loss and 2-1/2 tackles for loss.
Last season, Cumberland edged Campbellsville in Lebanon, Tennessee, 46-40. However, Campbellsville leads the all-time series, 14-13, and during games played in Campbellsville, the Tigers hold an 8-5 advantage.
Over the last nine meeting between Campbellsville and the Phoenix, the two teams have traded victories, where Cumberland was the last team to win back-to-back games from 2006 to 2008 when it won three-straight.
Prior to the game, head coach Perry Thomas and the Campbellsville football program will recognize their 13 graduating seniors in their final regular-season game at Finley Stadium. Seniors: Zerric Willis, Elmer Barron, Justin Ramos, Khalil Baker, Ryan Grattan, Bradley Bates, Ty’lan Byas, Chantz Goodman, Raphael Turner, Ray Coleman and Cruise Coulter will all be honored prior to kickoff.
Senior Day festivities begin at approximately 1:10 p.m. ET, followed by kickoff at 1:30 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon.
