The top-seeded Thomas More College volleyball team swept fifth-seeded Geneva College, 3-0, tonight (Friday, November 3, 2017) in the semifinal round of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. The Saints won by the scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-16.
With the win, the Saints improve to 28-5 and advance to play either second-seeded Westminster College or third-seeded Bethany College in tomorrow’s championship match. The championship match is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center. With the loss, the Golden Tornadoes end the season at 13-21.
Sophomore middle hitter Jenna Mummert (Batavia, Ohio/Clermont Northeastern) led the Saints’ offensive attack with a match-high 13 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Madison Krumpelman (Crestview Hills, Ky./Holy Cross) finished with 10 kills and first-year outside hitter Carlee Lambert (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) added eight kills. Junior setter Jenna Fessler (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Beechwood) paced the offense with 36 assists.
Defensively, the Saints had four players with double-digit digs led by first-year defensive specialist Jessica Ginn (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) with 22. Senior defensive specialist Rachel Bronner (Reading, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) added 15 digs, Krumpleman finished with 13 and Fessler added 11.
