The top-seeded Thomas More College women’s soccer team won its seventh-straight Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament today (Friday, November 3, 2017) as it defeated second-seeded Grove City College, 2-0, in the championship match at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
Thomas More improves to 15-4-1 and receives the PAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division Championship Tournament. The tournament field and first/second round locations will be announced on Monday on www.ncaa.com. The Wolverines fall to 15-5-0.
The Saints took a 1-0 lead at the 7:05 mark when first-year midfielder Hannah Dargo (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) scored off a cross by sophomore forward Kristina Felix (Burlington, Ky./St. Henry).
Thomas More added an insurance goal in the 85th minute when first-year forward Ashley Maples (Springboro, Ohio/Archbishop Alter) found the top left corner of the goal for the final score of 2-0.
Sophomore goalkeeper Maddy Kim (California, Ky./Notre Dame) earned the shutout win as she played all 90 minutes and had 15 saves.
Grove City out-shot Thomas More 18-11, including 15-4 on goal as the Saints found the back of the net twice.
The championship title is the Saints’ eighth overall and first under head coach Kim McGowan.
