Thomas More College senior guard Abby Owings (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) has been named a preseason first team All-American by the internet website D3hoops.com.
Last season she was the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Player of the Year, D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes First Team selection, honorable mention WBCA All-American and first team D3hoops.com All-American.
Owings finished fifth in the league in scoring last season, averaging 16.0 points per game. She also ranked third in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.0), fourth in steals per game (2.2) and fifth in assists per game (3.4) and three-point field goals made (57). A two-time All-PAC First Team selection, Owings was a D3hoops.com preseason second team All-America selection last season and a D3hoops.com Fourth Team All-America selection in 2016.
Owings and the fifth-ranked Saints open the season on November 17 and 18 when they travel to Rochester, New York to play in the Rochester University Chuck Resler Tip-Off Tournament. Thomas More will Calvin College on the first day and either Capital University or No. 21-ranked Rochester on the second day. Thomas More’s home opener will be on November 25 when it hosts Heidelberg University at 4 p.m. on the first day of the Julie Costello Memorial Classic presented by Barleycorn’s and sponsored by Holiday Inn Cincinnati Airport.
