After helping the Kentucky women’s swimming and diving team sweep No. 25 Missouri and Southern Illinois over the weekend, Bailey Bonnett was named the Southeastern Conference’s Female Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
For the second time this season, Bonnett swept the breaststroke events in the two-day meet to help the Wildcats to victory. Both her 100 breaststroke time of 1:02.05 and her 200 breaststroke time of 2:14.30 were NCAA ‘B’ cuts.
The Pittsburgh native added second-place finishes in both the 200- and 400-yard individual medley events, second only to All-American IM’er Sharli Brady from Missouri.
Bonnett also helped the Wildcats to relay victories in both the 200 and 400 medley relays, posting the fastest breaststroke splits in the field in both races.
This is the second time Bonnett has been named SEC Female Freshman of the Week, having earned the distinction on Oct. 27 after helping Kentucky defeat conference foe Vanderbilt.
Kentucky will be back in action for its annual midseason taper, the Ohio State Invitational, Nov. 17-19 in Columbus, Ohio.
