Junior center Brooke Wallace and junior forward Jordan Campbell collected their first double-doubles of the season as Kentucky State University women’s basketball started the SIAC portion of the schedule with a 79-52 victory over Fort Valley State University on Saturday afternoon at the Exum Center.

The Thorobrettes (1-5, 1-0) snapped a five-game losing skid to begin the season against non-conferences foes with its first win of the season against a familiar opponent within the SIAC. The Lady Wildcats (0-7) have had a difficult time finding a win, as they’ve now lost seven straight with each game decided by 20 points or more.

KSU never trailed against the visiting squad as they came out of the gate with a 19-4 run. FVSU only cut the lead to single-digits at one point in the afternoon, and it came during the second quarter at 36-27 at 3:07. From the latter part of the second quarter and on, KSU cruised to the win.

Senior guard Brittani Rizzi led the way with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor, including 3-of-7 from three-point land, and added four assists. Wallace notched 15 points and a team-high 12 boards for her first standout game of the year. Campbell showed her threat from the bench with 11 points and 10 rebounds in 17 minutes of action. Junior guard Lyndsey Downing turned in an all-around performance with eight points, five rebounds, and a team-high six assists.

The Thorobrettes will welcome in Albany State University for a 5:30 pm ET tipoff on Monday. KSU fell to ASU back on Feb. 27 when they were upset in the opening round of the SIAC Championship Tournament, ending their season.
