Miyah Watford’s first half goal was all the Murray State Racers needed to reach the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament finals, as they defeated Southeast Missouri 1-0 at Cutchin Field in Murray, Kentucky.
With the win, the Racers move to 14-1-2 overall, while the Redhawks end their season at 8-8-4.
Going 2-0 against the Redhawks this year, Murray State was victorious 1-0 in both matchups.
In the 28th minute, Emma Heise headed a ball to Watford in the box, who took a touch and sent a hard shot with her left foot to the right side of the net to make it a 1-0 game. Watford now has five goals on the year, good for third on the team.
Alex Steigerwald’s record is the same as the team as she recorded her 14th win of the season and is now second in single season shutouts in MSU history with nine and first in single season wins with 14.
The Racers now prepare to meet Eastern Kentucky on Sunday in the OVC Finals. The match begins at 1 p.m. on the Racers home pitch. EKU pushed past Tennessee Tech 1-0 in overtime to win the first semifinal of the day. The Racers and EKU played once this season with the match ending in a 1-1 draw (Oct. 5) in Richmond. In the Racers 13th appearance in the OVC Tournament, the Sunday match will be the second time they’ve met EKU in the postseason. MSU won 1-0 in 2009 in a match played at Morehead State.
