WKU men’s basketball head coach Rick Stansbury announced Thursday the signing of Matthew Horton (6-11, Forward) to a national letter of intent in the 2018 class.
“Matt brings a much-needed ability to our program,” Stansbury said. “He’s got great size and athleticism. Again, we think his best days lie ahead of him. He’s just coming on as a player, but he can really run and really block shots. As he continues to gain experience and get stronger, he’s got a bright future.”
Horton, who’s originally from Tuscaloosa, Ala., will have two years of eligibility remaining following his transfer from Shelton State Community College.
The big man averaged 5.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game last year in a reserve role for a standout Shelton State squad. He appeared in 27 games and started three, but he’s expected to be a focal point for the program this season as a sophomore.
Horton registered six points, 10 rebounds and two blocks in his team’s first game of the year this season.
Shelton State went 27-6 last season, won an ACCC championship and advanced to the first round of the NJCAA Championship tournament.
Horton averaged 22 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks as a senior at Paul Bryant High School in Tuscaloosa.
