Eastern Kentucky University junior forward Jackson Davis has been voted the Ohio Valley Conference Co-Newcomer of the Week for men’s basketball, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Davis averaged 16.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals-per-game in two games last week. The transfer from Butler started the week with 15 points, two rebounds, two blocks and a steal in 18 minutes of action in a convincing home win over Norfolk State.
He followed that with a season-high 17 points to go along with six rebounds, four steals and an assist at Marshall.
Davis shot 59.1 percent (13-of-22) from the field and 85.7 percent (6-of-7) from the free throw stripe during the week.
The native of Lexington, Kentucky is now averaging 7.7 points and 4.8 rebounds-per-game, and he ranks among the OVC’s leaders in steals-per-game (1.5).
He shared this week’s honor with Austin Peay’s Averyl Ugba.
Davis and the Colonels open OVC play on Thursday, December 28, at Jacksonville State. Tip is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET.
