The Northern Kentucky women’s basketball team fell to Indiana on Saturday evening by a final score of 67-56. The Hoosiers went on a 13-0 run, which started near the end of the third quarter, to build a big enough lead and get the victory. NKU drops to 1-7 on the year, while Indiana moves to 6-4.
STAT LEADERS
Molly Glick led the Norse with 17 points and eight rebounds. It marked her fourth-straight game scoring more than 15 points.
Taryn Taugher added eight points and four offensive rebounds.
Kailey Coffey had a balanced effort with seven points and four rebounds, along with two assists, blocks and steals.
Indiana’s Tyra Buss led all scorers with 25 points.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
Both teams struggled offensively in the first quarter. NKU went 4-of-18 (22.2%) from the floor in the first period, while Indiana shot 3-of-15 (20.0%).
At the end of the first quarter, the score was 9-8 in favor of the Norse. This was just the second time this season that Indiana had been held to less than 10 points in a quarter. The only other time was on Dec. 3 in the first quarter against Auburn.
The Hoosiers took a five-point lead early in the second quarter, but the Norse closed the half on a 7-1 run over the final 2:02 of the second period to take a 25-24 lead into the break.
Glick led the Norse with nine points in the first half.
NKU shot 6-of-13 (46.2%) in the second quarter and finished the half 10-of-31 (32.3%) from the floor.
The Hoosiers were 7-of-10 (70.0%) in the second quarter and 10-of-25 (40.0%) in the half.
The Norse forced 13 turnovers in the half thanks in part to six steals.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
NKU and Indiana stayed fairly even until the end of the third quarter. The Hoosiers scored the final five points of the period to take a 42-37 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Norse went 4-of-13 (30.8%) from the floor in the third quarter, while Indiana was 4-of-11 (36.4%).
Indiana went on a 13-0 run, which started with 1:20 left in the third quarter, to build a 50-37 lead in the fourth quarter.
The Hoosiers extended the lead to as much as 16 points in the fourth quarter. The Norse had it cut down to eight, but couldn’t get any closer, as Indiana went on to win by a final score of 67-56.
Indiana shot 7-of-13 (53.8%) in the fourth quarter, and NKU went 6-of-16 (37.5%) from the floor in the quarter.
After having 13 turnovers in the first half, Indiana only had four miscues in the second half.
NORSE NOTES
Nine different players scored for the Norse.
Indiana finished the game 21-of-49 (42.9%) from the floor, while NKU went 20-of-60 (33.3%).
The Norse had 14 offensive rebounds in the game, while IU was allowed 11.
NKU committed fewer turnovers, but the Hoosiers took advantage of its 16 miscues with 22 points off turnovers. Indiana also had a 30-22 edge in the paint.
