Murray State Football Wins Second Straight OVC Sportsmanship Award

Murray State has won the 2017 OVC Team Sportsmanship award for football, the league office announced Friday. This marks the second consecutive season in which the Racer football team has won the award.

Voted on by the student-athletes and coaches of the respective sports, the team awards are bestowed upon the conference squads deemed to have best exhibited the standards of sportsmanship and ethical behavior as outlined by the OVC and NCAA. Included in the areas for evaluation are the conduct of student-athletes, coaches, staff and administrators and fans.

“We always want to be known as a program that carries itself with a lot of class and dignity, so for us this award means a lot,” said head coach Mitch Stewart. “It is made even more special by the fact is it voted on by coaches and student-athletes. For us to be recognized for doing things the right way by our peers for the second year in a row, is really a great achievement.

The 2017-18 school year marks the 13th year the team sportsmanship honors have been awarded.
