The third-ranked Campbellsville women’s basketball team picked up a 77-48 victory over University of Mobile in the Lady Tigers’ first home game in nearly two weeks on Friday night inside the Powell Athletic Center.
Madison Clements recorded a game-high 19 points for the Lady Tigers (13-2) and now sits just 20 points away from hitting 1,000 points in her career at Campbellsville. Savannah Gregory recorded 12 points and was two rebounds shy of double-double with eight. The Lady Tigers did not trail at any point in the contest as the Rams (8-5) were led Tara Tuck with 11 points off the bench.
Campbellsville came out strong in the first 10 minutes of action as it scored the first seven points of the game and Mobile scored its first points of the game 3:25 into the contest after a three-pointer from Kendra Sylvester.
The Lady Tigers went ahead by 10 points for the first time on the night after a Jordan Doram free three throw with 2:13 left in the period. Campbellsville doubled up the Rams in the first quarter, 16-8, after the Lady Tigers went scoreless after the free throw from Doram.
The second quarter started the same as the first, with Campbellsville going on an early spurt. The Lady Tigers went on 9-0 run before Mobile ended the run with its first points in the second quarter with 5:36 left to play.
Campbellsville stretched its lead to 37-13, which was its largest of the first half, but the Rams closed the half on an 8-0 run to cut their deficit to 37-21 at halftime.
Both teams traded points to start the second half as the only 20-point lead the Lady Tigers took in the first seven minutes of the third quarter was at 48-28 at the 5:14 mark. Holding a 50-35 advantage, Campbellsville scored the final seven points over the last 3:14 of the third quarter to take a 57-35 lead heading into the last stanza.
The Lady Tigers pulled away in the fourth quarter as they led by 20 points throughout the quarter and had its largest lead of 34 points with 2:32 left in the contest. Campbellsville shot an even 50 percent from the floor en route to the 77-48 victory.
After shooting just 29.6 percent from the field in the first half, the Rams made 57.9 percent of its shots in the second half to finish shooting 40 percent overall.
Campbellsville controlled the glass and held a 35-19 advantage in rebounding. Mobile’s 19 rebounds are the second fewest the Lady Tigers have allowed this season after Simmons College of Kentucky corralled just 15 boards against Campbellsville on Nov. 28.
The Lady Tigers open 2018 at home on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. ET against Stillman College in Campbellsville’s final non-conference game of the regular season.
