Season-high 122 pts leads No. 21 Campbellsville MBB to win over Kentucky Christian to wrap up 2017

The 21st-ranked Campbellsville men’s basketball team produced a season-high 122 points in a 122-92 in over Kentucky Christian University on Saturday afternoon to conclude the University of the Cumberlands Classic.

Duke Robinson led the Tigers (15-1) to its 11th-straight after he recorded a career-high 20 points and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the floor. Six different players for Campbellsville reached double figures and Jalen Coates joined Robinson with 20 points, while Tim Coleman chipped in with 18 points.

Hayden Dunn led all scorers in the game with 26 points for the Knights (8-10) and Owens Crawford finished with 22 points.

After Kentucky Christian erased an early five-point deficit to tie the game at 11, Campbellsville scored the next 13 points to grab a 24-11 advantage with 13:01 left in the first half. The Tigers stretched their run to 23-2 as they went on top by 21 points at the 11:10 mark in the half.

Campbellsville took a 56-33 lead – its largest of the half – with 4:23 to play before half. However, the Knights made one last charge before halftime and closed the period on a 16-4 run to cut its deficit to 60-49 at the break.

The Tigers shot a scorching 60.5 percent from the floor in the first half, and their 60 points in the first 20 minutes were the second-most in a first half this season after Campbellsville scored 67 points in the first half against Simmons College of Kentucky, just over a month ago.

An early basket from the Knights in the second half brought the score within nine points, but Campbellsville countered back with two points of its own and it held a double-digit lead the rest of the way.

With a 67-56 lead early in the second half, the Tigers rattled off an 11-2 run over a four-minute span to grab a 78-58 lead with 13:36 left in the game. This marked Campbellsville’s first 20-point lead since it held a 60-39 edge with 2:06 to play in the first half.

The Tigers continued to pull away in the second half as it surpassed the century mark for the sixth time this season after a bucket from Andrew Smith at the 5:34 mark in the half. Campbellsville took its largest lead of the game with 2:08 to play in regulation after a basket by Adam Stanford to put the Tigers on top, 118-85.

All 11 players scored for Campbellsville on Saturday afternoon en route the Tigers earning a 122-92 victory over Kentucky Christian.

Despite putting up a season-best 122 points, Campbellsville also gave up the most points in game this season as the Knights scored 92 points against the Tigers. This is the first time all season Campbellsville has surrendered 90 points as its previous season-high in points allowed was 88 points to Alice Lloyd College earlier this season.

The Tigers made 59.5 percent of its shots, while the 79 field goal attempts tied a season high for the team and their 47 made baskets are the most in a game this season. Campbellsville also set a season high with 10 blocks, where Smith and Deion Evans each set a career high with four blocks each.

Campbellsville returns to action in one week’s time as it opens 2018 and its Mid-South Conference slate at home against No. 1 Georgetown College on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET.
