Thomas More Men’s Basketball Defeats Manchester in Overtime

Junior guard Brandon Horne (Louisville, Ky./Male) recorded a double-double tonight (Wednesday, December 6, 2017) as he led the Thomas More College men’s basketball team to a 61-57 overtime win over Manchester University in a non-conference game at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena in North Manchester, Indiana.

With the win, the Saints improve to 5-3 and with the loss, the Spartans fall to 1-6.

The Saints shot 56.5 percent (13-of-23) from the field in the first half as it built a 29-23 lead at halftime. Thomas More took its biggest lead of the game at 49-39 with 5:43 to play in regulation when junior forward Ralph Stone (Shelbyville, Ky./Martha Layne Collins) made lay-up. Manchester responded with a 13-3 run to tie the game at 52-52 on a David Stinson three-pointer with 1:13 to play in the second quarter.

In overtime, Thomas More took control and led by as many as seven points and out-scored the Spartans 9-5 in the extra period to win the game 61-57.

Horne completed his double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Senior forward/center Simon Clifford (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) led the team in scoring with seven points, while junior guard Ryne Callahan (Morehead, Ky./Rowan County) added nine points and junior guard Damion King (Winchester, Ky./George Rogers Clark) finished with eight points. King led the team in assists with seven, while he and Stone finished the game with seven rebounds each.

The Saints return to Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Saturday (December 9) when they host Chatham University at 13 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center. The game will be broadcasted on the PAC Sports Network at www.pacstream.net.
