Thomas More WBB Defeats Pikeville, 67-59

The 10th-ranked Thomas More College women’s basketball team rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat NAIA-member University of Pikeville, 67-59, tonight (Tuesday, December 5, 2017) in a non-conference game at the Eastern Kentucky Expo Center.

With the win, the Saints improve to 7-1 and with the loss, the Bears fall to 6-5.

Thomas More trailed 44-41 entering the fourth quarter and used 50 percent (seven-of-14) shooting from the field and 91.6 percent (11-of-12) effort at the free-throw line to out-score the Bears 26-15 in the final quarter to come-from-behind to the win the game 67-59.

Four Saints scored in double-figures led by senior guard Abby Owings (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) with a game-high 17 points. Joining her in double-figures was junior guard Madison Temple (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) with 13 points, senior forward Nikki Kiernan (Cold Spring, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) with 12 points and sophomore forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart) with 10 points. Junior forward Shelby Rupp (Milan, Ind./Batesville) led the team on the boards as she pulled down a game-high seven rebounds. Owings, Temple and Schultz each pulled down six rebounds. First-year guard Tori Gilman (Milford, Ohio/Milford) led the team in assists as she dished out four assists.

The Saints return to Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Saturday (December 9) when they host Chatham University at 1 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center. The game will be broadcasted on the PAC Sports Network at www.pacstream.net.
