Kentucky State University women’s basketball turned its back-to-back wins against Paine College and Tuskegee University into a true winning streak with a 59-37 win over Miles College on Monday night at the Exum Center.

The Thorobrettes (6-11, 6-4) have put together their most successful run of the season, winning four of their last five games, moving them to 3-1 against Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference West division teams. The Lady Golden Bears (4-10, 2-5) have dropped three consecutive games, marking the third time this season they’ve lost three or more games in a row.

The second quarter proved to be friendly for the green and gold as they built a lead to double digits going into the locker room at the half with a 29-18 advantage. The Thorobrettes’ defense was relentless, holding the Lady Golden Tigers to just 20 percent shooting from the floor and outrebounding them by 12, 31-19 at the half.

The second half was déjà vu as KSU added to the point total, leading by as much as 24 in the fourth quarter.

Ten Thorobrettes contributed to the points column of the box score as senior guard Brittani Rizzi led the team with 10 points and three assists in 30 minutes of action. Junior forward Jordan Campbell came off the bench with another productive performance as she recorded nine points and seven rebounds. Junior forward Chea Taylor followed the lead of her post counterpart with a season-high nine points on four-of-five shooting from the paint.

Next up for KSU will be a road contest in Mobile, Alabama with a visit to Spring Hill College on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 1 PM ET.
