The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team will open a two-game OVC road swing at Austin Peay on Thursday night. Tipoff from the Dunn Center in Clarksville, Tennessee is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET.
WHAT TO KNOW
– EKU (8-13, 2-6 OVC) fell to Jacksonville State, 68-60, on Saturday at McBrayer Arena.
– Sophomore DeAndre Dishman poured in a career-high 21 points vs. Jacksonville State on Saturday. Dishman is now averaging 13.3 points and 6.8 rebounds-per-game during OVC play, and he ranks third in the conference in field goal percentage (56.2%).
– Junior Nick Mayo recorded his fourth double-double of the season vs. JSU (14 points, 11 rebounds). In doing so, he grabbed his 500th career rebound. He is one of only eight Colonels ever with 1,300 points and 500 rebounds in a career.
– EKU out-rebounded Jacksonville State, 44-31, on Saturday. The Gamecocks came into the game ranked second in the OVC in rebounding margin (+6.2).
– EKU went 22-of-27 (81.5%) from the free throw line on Saturday and the Colonels now lead the OVC in free throw percentage (75.8%).
– Thursday’s game pits the two highest-scoring freshmen in the league against each other: APSU’s Terry Taylor (15.5 points-per-game) and EKU’s Dedric Boyd (13.5 points-per-game).
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
– APSU (10-10, 5-3 OVC) fell at Tennessee State and Belmont last week.
– The Govs are led by Taylor, who also averages 8.6 rebounds-per-game.
– This is the 114th all-time meeting between EKU and Austin Peay. APSU leads the series, 61-52. However, the Colonels have won four of their last five over the Govs and their last two at the Dunn Center (2014 and 2016).
