The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team will host Eastern Illinois on Saturday afternoon in the second leg of its OVC weekend homestand. Tipoff from McBrayer Arena is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET.

WHAT TO KNOW

– EKU (6-10, 0-3 OVC) nearly staged an improbably last-minute comeback against SIUE on Thursday night at McBrayer Arena; however, the Colonels fell to the Cougars, 85-82.

– Junior Nick Mayo had 25 points against SIUE. Mayo has now scored 51 points in his last two outings, and the forward from Oakland, Maine ranks second in the OVC in scoring (20.7 points-per-game) during league play.

– Mayo passed EKU Hall-of-Famer Michael Haney to reach No. 16 on EKU’s all-time scoring list on Thursday (1,307 points). Next up on the list: Eric Stutz (1,338).

– Sophomore Tay Weaver has notched 15 assists and only two turnovers in EKU’s last two games.

– Freshman JacQuess Hobbs scored a career-high 10 points against SIUE on Thursday. He is the 10th different Colonel to score in double figures this season.

– Senior Dillon Avare and freshman A.J. Youngman combined to go 5-of-7 from three-point range against SIUE on Thursday. Youngman (6th / 43.5%) and Avare (13th / 40.0%) both rank in the top-15 in the OVC in three-point field goal percentage.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

– Eastern Illinois (5-9, 1-2 OVC) defeated Morehead State, 61-52, in Morehead on Thursday night for its first conference win.

– Montell Goodwin leads the Panthers at 13.5 points-per-game.

– This is the 39th all-time meeting between EKU and EIU. EKU leads the series, 22-16; however, the Panthers have won three straight over the Colonels, including a 74-60 victory last year in Richmond.
