EKU MBB’s Boyd Earns OVC Freshmen of the Week Honors

Eastern Kentucky University guard Dedric Boyd has been voted the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Boyd averaged 20.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals-per-game in two EKU road wins last week.

The Brownsville, Tennessee native exploded for a career-high 31 points in Thursday’s 78-70 victory at UT Martin. He went 9-of-12 from the field, 5-of-8 from deep and 8-of-8 from the free throw line. He also had three steals, two rebounds and one assist versus the Skyhawks. His 31 points are the fourth-most by an OVC player during league play.

On Saturday, Boyd had nine points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals to help the Colonels secure a 91-86 win at Southeast Missouri.

Boyd currently ranks second among all OVC freshmen in scoring (13.6 points-per-game). He ranks seventh in the league in free throw percentage (84.3).

This is Boyd’s second OVC Freshman of the Week award this season. He earned the honor on November 13 after scoring 20 points in the Colonels’ season-opening win at Rice.

Boyd and the Colonels will look to continue their winning ways when they host Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State this weekend at McBrayer Arena.
