Ramon van Flymen, Parth Aggarwal and Gabriel Ruiz each picked up their first victories of the season as the Eastern Kentucky University men’s tennis team was upended by DePaul, 4-3, and Purdue University, 7-0, Monday afternoon at Purdue.
All of the Colonel wins came in the first match of the day against DePaul. Van Flymen topped Alex Galoustian at No. 1 singles (4-6, 6-4, (10-7). Ruiz and Aggarwal each won in straight sets. Aggarwal defeated Fran Tonejc in (7-5, 7-6) and Ruiz downed Tamas Zador (6-4, 6-2).
Guillem Sanchis battled Athell Bennett at No. 3 singles. After losing the first set, 6-3, the Valencia, Spain native came thundering back to take the second set 6-4. Sanchis fell in the final set 1-0 (10-3).
Eastern returns to action Friday at the University of Kentucky. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m.
