EKU WBB Takes Winning Streak On The Road

After picking up two straight wins at home, the Eastern Kentucky University women’s basketball team takes to the road for two games, beginning Thursday at Austin Peay State University.

WHAT TO KNOW

– The Colonels (7-10, 4-4 OVC) are coming of home court wins over Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State.

– A’Queen Hayes was chosen as the OVC Co-Player of the Week and the OVC Newcomer of the Week on Tuesday.

– EKU held Jacksonville State to 44 points, tied for the fifth fewest points ever allowed in an OVC game in program history, in a 48-44 win at home on Saturday.

– During its two-game winning streak, EKU limited its opponents to 49 points per game, 37 percent shooting and 32 percent from three-point range. Eastern out-rebounded the two teams by seven boards per game and combined to out-score TTU and JSU 56-28 in the paint.

– Eastern Kentucky is second in the OVC in scoring defense (61.9 ppg), fourth in rebounding margin (+3.5), fourth in rebounding offense (38.2 rpg), second in rebounding defense (34.7 rpg), fifth in blocks (3.2/g) and fifth in field goal percentage defense (39.7 percent).

– Eastern leads the all-time series 49-31 and is 19-17 all-time in games played in Clarksville.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

– Austin Peay is 11-8 overall and 4-4 in OVC play. The Governors have lost three of their past four games, falling in road games at Tennessee Tech, Jacksonville State and Belmont.

– APSU averages 65 points and allows 65.2 points per game. The Governors have shot 40 percent from the field and 34 percent from deep. Their opponents have made 43 percent if their shots from the field.

– Brianne Alexander leads Austin Peay in scoring (10.3 ppg) and is second on the team in rebounding (5.2 rpg). The 6-foot, senior center has made 49 percent of her shots from the field. Brianah Ferby, a 5-foot-6 freshman guard, and Keisha Gregory, a 5-foot-10 junior guard, average 9.8 points per game each. Gregory is the team’s top rebounder at 5.6 boards per game.
