Kentucky State University women’s basketball picked up it’s first overtime and first non-conference victory of the season with a 94-85 road win over Oakland City University on Tuesday night.

The Thorobrettes (7-12, 6-5) now go on seven-game stretch of conference games all against west division opponents, with five of the seven on the road. The Mighty Oaks (6-12) had won back-to-back games before the loss, and previously lost five games prior to the successful weekend.

For the second game in row, assistant head coach Latear Eason stepped in for head coach Terrance Slater, as he handled a back injury, picking up her first career win as a head coach.

“We came out and fought hard for 45 minutes in regulation and in overtime,” said Eason. “We were locked in and executed down the stretch by making key free-throws and making crucial plays when we need to in overtime. Various players contribute off the bench and It was a true team effort that led to the win. It’s a good non-conference win to get us back on track with conference play starting back up this weekend.”

Freshman forward Erica Jones recorded her second double-double of the year with a season-high 24 points and wiped the boards clean with a game-high 11 rebounds. The South Haven, Mississippi native went 11-of-15 from the floor in 28 minutes of action.

Senior guard Brittani Rizzi continued to be the trend setter in the scoring column as she accumulated a team-high 24 points, for her first 20-point game of the year. Rizzi went 3-for-6 from three-point territory and a near perfect 9-of-10 from the charity stripe.

Junior forward Jordan Campbell came off the bench playing a much-needed supportive role with 19 points and nine rebounds. Campbell has scored double-digits in three of her last four games for her most productive scoring stretch of the season.

KSU will continue its road stretch this weekend against Lane College, playing the third of four games away from Capitol City. Tipoff is set for 2:00 pm ET.
