NKU WBB ailed by shooting woes at Oakland, Fall 79-53

Northern Kentucky women’s basketball was unable to keep up its hot streak, falling to Horizon League foe Oakland on the road. With the 79-53 setback, NKU drops to 4-11 overall and 2-2 in League play while the Golden Grizzlies advance to 9-6 (2-2 HL).

STAT LEADERS

Samari Mowbray led the Norse with 11 points, sinking three 3-pointers for the second time in her career.
Kailey Coffey hit double figures for the second-straight game, with eight of her 10 points coming from the free throw line.
Taryn Taugher was just one point and one rebound shy of her first double-double, and dished out three assists while nabbing three steals.
Grayson Rose tied her career high of seven rebounds, and Jazmyne Geist had three steals.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY

Despite shooting just 20.0 percent in the half, including one field goal in the first quarter, the Norse only trailed by eight at the half, 29-21.
Oakland went up thanks to efficient 3-point shooting from Cierra Bond, who had 15 points at the intermission.
The Golden Grizzlies hit the boards aggressively, out-rebounding the Norse 30-16.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY

NKU had its most efficient quarter in the third, but still shot a low 33.3 percent while Oakland went off for a .571 clip and out-scored NKU 29-15 in the stanza.
Taugher had all nine of her points and six of her rebounds in the half to lead the team.
NORSE NOTES

Oakland takes the lead in the all-time series, 3-2.
NKU reconciled the rebounding difference a bit in the second half, but still found itself down 54-42 on the boards. Oakland had 23 offensive rebounds.
The Golden Grizzlies also had the advantage in the paint, 24-20, and scored 26 points off NKU’s 22 turnovers.
