12 Saints reached the scoring column tonight (Wednesday, January 31, 2018) as the fourth-ranked Thomas More College women’s basketball team defeated Bethany College, 88-28, in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 19-1 overall and remain undefeated in the PAC at 13-0. With the loss, the Bison fall to 9-11 overall and 6-7 in the PAC.
Bethany took an early 2-0, but the Saints never trailed after the 7:01 mark of the first quarter as they led 21-8 after one quarter, 45-12 at halftime and 70-16 after three quarters as it cruised to the 88-28 victory.
The Saints’ defense forced 33 Bison turnovers and had a 49-7 advantage in points off turnovers. Thomas More also outscored Bethany 30-10 in the paint, 16-7 on second chance points and 12-0 on fast break points.
Thomas More was led in scoring by senior guard Abby Owings (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) with a game-high 20 points. Joining her in double-figures was senior forward Nikki Kiernan (Cold Spring, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) and junior guard Madison Temple (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) with 12 points each. Junior forward Shelby Rupp (Milan, Ind./Batesville) led the team on the boards with a game-high 10 rebounds, while Temple led the team in assists with nine and Owings led the team in steals with eight.
The Saints remain at home on Saturday (February 3) when they host Geneva College at 1 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center
