Lady Topper Tennis will stay in the Commonwealth this weekend as WKU plays its first conference opponent of the season in a neutral site match in Louisville against UTEP on Saturday. On Sunday, the Red and White will face off against the Cardinals on their home court at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. Both matches are slated to begin at 10 a.m. CT.
Conference-USA foe, UTEP, finished 4-14 overall in the 2016-17 season and 0-1 in league play. The Miners also marked a 2-4 record when playing at neutral sites. UTEP began the 2017-18 season by sweeping Western New Mexico twice in a season-opening double-header. This will be the first meeting between WKU and UTEP.
Last season, Louisville finished with a record of 15-13 overall while going 3-11 in ACC action. The Cardinals began the 2018 slate sweeping both Wright State and Dayton. Louisville leads the all-time series against WKU 9-4, claiming the last seven matches.
The Lady Toppers will be looking for their first win of the season this weekend after falling in a tight 4-3 decision at Alabama last Sunday. Freshman Moka Ito, sophomore Monica Malinen and senior Violetta Shatalova each won their singles match against a member of the Crimson Tide.
