Wright State edges NKU WBB in overtime, 68-63

The Northern Kentucky women’s basketball team was edged by Wright State in overtime on Saturday afternoon, 68-63. The Raiders move to 13-4 overall and 4-1 in the Horizon League. The Norse fall to 4-12 and 2-3 in League play.

STAT LEADERS

Kailey Coffey led NKU with a career-high-tying 17 points, going 8-for-12 from the field. She also had four rebounds and two assists in the contest.
Molly Glick contributed 15 points, five rebounds and a career-best five assists.
Taryn Taugher added nine points, four rebounds and two assists.
Samari Mowbray was a key contributor on defense with three steals and two blocks.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY

Wright State went on a 9-0 run to jump out to an 11-2 lead early in the first quarter. The Norse battled back and cut the deficit to four, but the Raiders took a 20-14 lead into the second quarter.
NKU had gotten the deficit down to three and outscored Wright State 9-8 in the second quarter, but the Raiders led 28-23 at halftime.
Coffey was the top scorer for NKU in the half with eight points, and Glick contributed seven points.
The Norse shot 9-of-22 (40.9%) in the half, while Wright State was 12-of-28 (42.9%) from the floor.
NKU was a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line in the half.
Each team had 16 points in the paint in the first half of action.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY

The Norse cut the deficit to 42-40 near the end of the third quarter.
NKU went 7-of-12 (58.3%) from the floor and 2-of-3 (66.7%) from behind the arc in the quarter to close the gap.
The Norse took their first lead of the game with 8:33 to play in the game. Jazmyne Geist hit a layup to put NKU ahead 44-42.
The fourth quarter featured six ties and six lead changes.
Taryn Taugher hit two tough shots as the shot clock expired at both the 3:35 and 2:16 minute marks to tie the game.
NKU and Wright State were tied 56-56 at the end of regulation, forcing an overtime period.
The Norse went 7-of-11 (63.6%) from the floor in the fourth quarter.
NKU also held Wright State to just 4-of-19 (21.1%) shooting during the period.
OVERTIME SUMMARY

Wright State started the overtime period on a 10-2 run and won the game by a final score of 68-63.
NORSE NOTES

It was the first overtime game of the season for NKU.
The Norse shot 25-of-52 (48.1%) overall and 5-of-12 (41.7%) from the three-point line. NKU also went 8-of-9 (88.9%) from the free throw line.
Wright State was 25-of-67 (37.3%) from the floor and just 5-of-20 (25.0%) from beyond the arc. The Raiders also struggled at the free throw line, shooting just 13-of-23 (56.5%) from the charity stripe.
NKU had 17 assists on 25 made field goals.

NKU returns to BB&T Arena on Monday, Jan. 15 for a matchup against Cleveland State. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
