Lady Tiger basketball won its third straight Mid-South Conference game in style on Thursday night, as No. 3 Campbellsville rolled past Georgetown, 89-64.
The Lady Tigers (21-3, 7-1 MSC) finished hitting 45 percent (31-of-69) from the floor and forced 24 turnovers. CU finished with 25 assists on the night off those 31 made baskets.
Savannah Gregory led the Lady Tigers with 16 points – which is the most she has pitched in since she scored 17 on Dec. 1 vs. Carver College. Â
Madison Faulkner and Madison Kaiser both continued their offensive prowess scoring 16 and 13, respectively. Kaiser also led CU with five assists, while Caitlin Hall and Lauren Turner both had four a piece.
Alexus Calhoun also had a stellar night on the offensive end hitting 6-of-7 shots from the floor and matching a career-high 13 points.
But like many wins this season, it was the Campbellsville defense that turned into offense. Off the 24 turnovers, CU scored 23 points off those miscues.
The offense started at a snail’s pace as CU hit 1-of-8 shots to start but the Lady Tigers capitalized on three-straight possessions. Gregory sparked CU with the first 3 of the night and Faulkner scored four-straight to put CU ahead, 12-7.
Madison Stewart then found Calhoun for a deuce and Kaiser picked up an offensive board to score and put CU ahead, 16-7.
The Lady Tigers held Georgetown scoreless for almost seven minutes in the first quarter and went on an 11-0 run themselves to never look back.
In the second quarter, Gregory scored four straight points to push CU’s lead to 13 points, 26-13, but it was followed with a Cristin Hall triple – assist to her twin sister Caitlin Hall. Kaiser followed suit with a 3 herself extending the lead to 20 points, 37-17.
The Lady Tigers pushed that lead to 25 points, 46-21, just before the half.
In the third quarter, coach Ginger Colvin was able to play her reserves for a majority of the final 20 minutes. Freshman Shyla Calbert buried a 3 to end the quarter pushing CU ahead by 31 points, 71-40.
In the fourth, it was Caitlin Hall and Sammy Rogers both knocking down triples to get in on the action.
CU finished the night hitting 7-of-20 from the 3-point line.
Georgetown, which was led by Dasia Kilbourne’s 14 points, fell to 7-16 overall and 1-7 inside conference play.
Campbellsville will now return home to The Powell Athletic Center on Thursday, Feb. 8 to host Life University at 6 p.m. ET. CU also hosts University of the Cumberlands next week, Saturday, Feb. 10.
