Murray State Track & Field Finishes Second In The Don DeNoon Invite

The Murray State Racers traveled to Carbondale, Ill., for the Don DeNoon Invite hosted by Southern Illinois.

Day one saw Taylor McCammon and Aubrey Main representing the Racers in the pentathlon, which included 60-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and the 800-meter race.

Main finished third and set a PR , posting a time of 9.90 for the hurdles, 1.61m (5′ 3.25”) in the high jump, 10.21m (33’6”) in the shot put, 5.18, (17’0”) in the long jump and a time of 2.29.25 in the 800-meter race.

McCammon finished 4th, posting a time of 9.09 for hurdles, 1.58m (5′ 2.25” in high jump, 10.37m (34′ 0.25”) for the shot put, 5.27m (17′ 3.50”) for the long jump and a time of 3.12.81 for the 800-meter race

In the weight throw, Christina Meinhardt came away with a top-five finish of 13.01m (42′ 8.25”) while Rachel Gootee rounded out the top-10 with a mark of 10.58m (34′ 8.50”).

Main and Jabreuna Brimlett both posted top-five marks in the high jumps. Main came in first and posted a PR and season-best with a mark of 1.69m (5′ 6.50”) while Brimlett came away with a fifth-place finish of 1.60m (5′ 3”).

In the long jump, Brimlett came in second place with a jump of 5.60m (18′ 4.50”) with Alison Woerner, Taylor McCammon and Tamdra Lawrence rounding out the top-15. Woerner finished fifth with a jump of 5.42m (17′ 9.50”).
McCammon finished seventh with a season-best jump of 5.40m (17′ 8.25”) and Lawrence finished 12th with a season-best jump of 5.12m (16′ 9.75”).

“The team competed very well on day one with three athletes compiling four PRs. The day was highlighted by Aubrey Main with a PR in both the high jump and pentathlon. We came into this meet focusing on competing and each one of the athletes did that today. We are happy with the start of the meet and look to add to it tomorrow,” said head coach Adam Kiesler after the first day of action of the Don DeNoon Invite.

Murray State sits in second place with 28.5 points after the first day of competition, as they trail Austin Peay by four points.

Murray State finished second overall in the Don DeNoon Invite in Carbondale, Ill., With 92 points. The only team to do better was Southern Illinois.

“On day two we had a lot of carryover from day one. Everyone came out to compete and the performances showed. We came to win the meet and fell just short of our goal, but I think with where we are with training we are in a good spot. We look forward to next week and continuing to improve as a team,” said head coach Adam Kiesler on the overall performance of the Racers.

60-Meter Dash/Hurdles
In the 60-meter dash, Tamdra Lawrence posted a time of 7.61 for a second place finish and tied her season best.

For the 60-meter hurdles, Jabreuna Brimlett blazed her way to a first-place finish with a time of 8.45. Antoinetta Avant placed fifth with a time of 9.05.

Shot Put
Jewel Wagner and Destiny Carey posted identical throws to lead the Racers with marks of 12.64m (41′ 5.75”)

200-Meter
Lawrence and Abdur-Rafia took first and second place in the 200-Meter race with times of 24.87 and 25.10. Daijah White rounded out the top-10 with a time of 26.42

400-Meter
Norma Abdur-Rafia ran the second fastest time in the 400-meter event with a season-best time of 57.54. D’Myia Thornton and Summer Wheeler both posted top-10 times of 58.85 and 1:00.85 respectively. Wheeler set a season-best with her time of 1.00.85.

800-Meter
Hilary McAdam set the pace for Murray State in the 800-meter race, coming in second with a time of 2:19.03. Ida Mutai and Amanda Parker were the next fastest with times of 2:35.86 and 2:35.91.

Mile Race
Meagan Smith posted the fastest time in the mile race for the Racer with a time of 5:17.47, coming 10th overall and a season-best.

3000-Meter
In the 3000-meter race, Smith came in fifth place with a time of 10:19.20 while Rebekah Priddy came in ninth with a time of 10:34.30.

4x400m Relay
The Murray State “A” relay squad cracked the top-five with a fifth-place finish of 4:05.02 with McAdam, Lawrence,Wheeler and Main.

Murray State travels next to the Pittsburgh State Gorilla Classic in Pittsburgh, Kan., going from Friday, February 9 to Saturday, February 10.
