After a big momentum win on Sunday afternoon in extremely sloppy conditions over Furman, the Kentucky Wildcats will now turn their attention to Southeastern Conference play as UK travels west to face the Missouri Tigers in the conference opener Thursday night at 7 p.m. ET.
The match will be televised live on the SEC Network and ESPN app with Trey Bender and former United States Women’s National Team goalkeeper Jill Loyden on the call. Todd Kulis produces.
UK is 4-4-0 on the season with all four wins coming in the second half or overtime this season. The Wildcats are one of the youngest teams in the country, as there have been at least eight freshman and sophomores in the starting lineup for every match this season.
Missouri is off to a 2-4-1 start on the season against a brutal non-conference schedule. The Tigers are coming off their second win of the season against Gonzaga in a 2-0 result Sunday.
This is the 10th all-time series meeting between Kentucky and Mizzou. UK has yet to beat the Tigers since they joined the SEC in 2012. Mizzou has oddly beat Kentucky by a score of 2-1 in five of the team’s seven meetings, including an OT match last year in Lexington. The first four meetings after Mizzou joined the league were all 2-1 scorelines.
Seven of the 10 goals scored by Kentucky this season have been by international players. Hollie Olding (ENG) has scored three and Yuuka Kurosaki (JPN) leads the team with four goals. In all eight of Kentucky’s matches this season, there have been at least eight freshman and sophomores in the starting lineup.
