The Kentucky Rifle program will begin its NCAA Championship defense on the road at No. 7 Nebraska on Saturday.
The match will begin at 9 a.m. ET/8 a.m. CT (local). Nebraska will live stream the match alongside live targets.
“Starting the season on the road is always a good test,” Kentucky head coach Harry Mullins said. “I feel that we have put in a solid effort leading to this point and that the team is ready to test themselves. Nebraska is a good program and conference member so I think this will be a good match to start the season.
“Both teams are testing the waters for the first time and they have good potential to have good performances. I am looking forward to seeing how our team reacts to the travel. Having three new shooters will bring a new dynamic to the travel team. I am excited to see what we can do.”
Kentucky, which won the 2018 NCAA title and returns three – Hanna Carr, Cathryn Papasodora and Hailee Sigmon – of the five shooters from that Championships squad, begins the fall as the No. 3-ranked team in the country as the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association’s preseason poll was released last month.
UK will have its home opener at the Buell Armory on Oct. 13 for a tri-match with in-state foes No. 4 Murray State, who finished fourth at last season’s NCAA Championships, and No. 17 Morehead State.
UK will get the spring season started by hosting No. 14 Akron on Jan. 19.
This season’s GARC Championships will be in Akron, Ohio, on Feb. 22-24. West Virginia and its new range will play host to the 2019 NCAA Championships on March 8-10.
The Wildcats won the program’s second NCAA Championship last March in Charleston after qualifying for an 18th-consecutive appearance at The Championships.
UK placed second at the Great American Rifle Conference Championships last season.
