Junior Matt Liston will head into the final round of the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational with an opportunity to earn his first individual top-20 finish of the season after the opening day of the two-day, 54-hole event on Saturday.
Liston is tied for 22nd behind rounds of 74 and 72 and sits at 2-over par for the tournament. He’s a mere stroke off the pace for a top-20 finish which would mark his first of the 2018-19 season. The Wildcats are in 10th through two rounds of play in Loxley, Alabama.
Liston played at even par over the second set of 18 holes on Saturday. He carded four birdies during the second round and matched that total during the opening 18 holes.
Senior Max Mehles is tied for 35th following rounds of 73 and 75. Mehles birdied the par-five ninth during both rounds on Saturday. Classmate Lukas Euler is tied for 50th with a combined 6-over score.
Senior Fred Allen Meyer and junior Allen Hamilton are both tied for 57th to round out UK’s starting five. Meyer fired rounds of 74 and 78, while Hamilton carded a 77 and a 75.
Playing as an individual, redshirt freshman Zach Norris currently sits in a tie for 35th alongside Mehles. Norris had an even-par 72 to open the tournament before carding a 4-over 76 during round two. Senior Fadhli Soetarso is also tied for 50th with a 1-under 71 during round two highlighting his day. Soetarso had four birdies during his under-par round, the only of the day for the Wildcats. Sophomore Jacob Cook was the final Wildcat in action and he is tied for 71st with 18 holes to play.
Seventh-ranked Wake Forest leads the field by seven strokes. Kennesaw State is in second, while Indiana, Mississippi State and Richmond round out the top five.
Steelwood is playing at a par 72 over 7,096 yards. The final 18 holes begin at 9 a.m. ET on Sunday. Live scoring is available via golfstat.com.
